The Colossus: A body made of memory

An immersive experience built in Unity with Evercoast volumetric capture.

Night scene from The Colossus: dark rock formations rise from a teal sea, with moonlight reflecting on the water.

Overview

The Colossus is a cinematic, immersive, spatial experience through emerging digital media. I created the piece in Unity and used Evercoast volumetric capture to transform my body into a sculptural presence that feels suspended between dream and memory.

Scene from The Colossus at dusk: giant stone figures rise from the sea — a crouching body, a hand with raised fingers, and a colossal head — under glowing clouds.

Scripting in C#

My main concern with this piece was how to loop the scene seamlessly while offering a unique experience to each spectator. The camera script sets four positions and angles that are connected and looped. The voice-over script creates an array of twelve audio fragments that are played randomly, avoiding repetition until all twelve fragments have been used. These fragments are reproduced with a fifteen-second interval.
